A friendly receptionist sits at the front desk of the Blackrock DXA clinic, ready to check in patients for their bone density scans. A small sign beside the window reads “DXA Scanning – Please check in here.”

Submit a Referral

Before we can schedule your DXA scan, we require a referral letter from your GP or consultant. This is a necessary step in accordance with EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) regulations, due to the small amount of radiation involved in the procedure.

Why We Require a Referral

All patients — even those who have attended Blackrock DXA before — must provide a referral that includes relevant medical information and risk factors. This ensures that the scan is clinically justified, and helps our team offer accurate reporting and recommendations to your doctor.

Your referral should include:

The reason for the scan (e.g. history of fractures, low bone density, family history, or other risk factors).

Any relevant clinical information.
